Read Across Tyrrell/Family Reading Night

Thank you to our guest readers! Also, thank you to all for hosting our guest/celebrity readers on Read Across Tyrrell day. This was a positive experience for our entire community.  It further encouraged the love and excitement of reading.  In addition, thank you Ms. Jurado/Ms. McKimmey for coordinating a successful Family Reading Night, and our many teachers/staff that contributed and participated in the event.  Thank you for continuing to make a difference for our kids! First Tee of the East Bay

First Tee of the East Bay at Pebble Beach

Seven of the 16 First Tee participating students attended the field trip, sponsored by the First Tee of the East Bay.  Their journey began at 6:30am as they boarded the bus at Metropolitan Golflinks in Oakland.  From there, Tyrrell students ventured on to to Pebble Beach where they were spectators at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, PGA Tour golf tournament.  In addition to watching the professionals and some celebrities play golf, they also tested out their own skills in the Stem Zone for kids.  Many thanks to the First Tee of the East Bay for making this opportunity a reality for Tyrrell students.

Tyrrell Students engaged in learning

Tyrrell is a Peacebuilders School!

Peace Builders are a new Social Skills Program at Tyrrell

Tyrrell Elementary School is a uniform school. Students are expected to wear uniforms every day.

TOPS – White with a collar (polo shirt, blouse)

BOTTOMS – Tan (pants, shorts, jumpers, or skirts with shorts underneath)

OUTERWEAR – Black (sweaters, sweatshirts)

Wearing a uniform to school instills a sense of community, unity, and school pride. In addition, uniforms contribute to the overall safety of Tyrrell.

Thank You Hayward Rotary

The First Tee of the East Bay

The First Tee of the East Bay
During the fall of 2014, The First Tee of Oakland expanded into Hayward and was renamed, "The First Tee of the East Bay Serving Oakland and Hayward" as Tyrrell Elementary school joined the First Tee's "Green Grass", an after-school program.  Through "Green Grass" students participated in after school sessions at Mission Hills Golf Course.  During their adventures, students learned lessons about character through the game of golf.
Tyrrell couldn't wait for the kids to get started in "Green Grass.  In addition to having a sport other than soccer, the students benefited from the character development aspects of the program through the Nine Core Value Lessons and Healthy Habits curriculum.  The school concluded with a culminating assembly that showcased what was to come during the 2015 2016 school year.  Physical Education Teacher, Mr. Hamm, will be incorporating the First Tee curriculum into the existing PE program during the school year for students in 1st through 6th grades.
Shortly after, Glassbrook Elementary began its partnership with the First Tee, and will continue this school year.  Beyond all this excitement, The First Tee of the East Bay is expanding their efforts to Ruus Elementary in the fall of 2015.  We look forward to the exciting opportunities that will be shared with additional schools in our feeder pattern this school year.
We are grateful for the efforts of the staff at The First Tee of the East Bay.  Their many contributions provide the financial support for these opportunities for HUSD students.  The First Tee of the East Bay is making a difference in the lives of our students.
