Black History Month

In honor of "Black History Month" Tyrrell students had the pleasure of listening to the stories and songs of Award Winning Internation Storyteller, Diane Ferlatte along with Erick Pearson on the banjo. First she engaged the students with Sign-language and interactive songs. Then she told the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. We also heard the brave 1st and 2nd graders from Ms. Dennis' and Mrs. Franklin's classes sing the "Black National Anthem" and "We Shall Overcome" They were accompanied by Mrs. Franklin, on piano, and Mr Boettcher, on guitar. Our energenic "MC" was Ms. Dennis. Through out the month of February many of our students studied the significant achievements of African-Americans' in U.S. History. In our 6th grade classes the students create PowerPoint Presentation about famous influential African-Americans' and presented their work to their classmates.

Thanks to the Vanir Foundation for sponsoring our Black History Assembly!
